I HAVE A RIGHT

by Adam McEldowney, 11/05/96

I have a right
to do what I want
And so do you. Don’t jump on me
You don’t have that right!
Cook me dinner with lots
of food on the plate.
That’s a right we both have.
I have a right to eat
what you cook for me.
You have a right to
sit next to me and eat
your meal too.
You’re so nice!
You got that right.
Let’s go for a walk.
We have that right together.
Hold hands
Another right. Let’s walk by the pond,
look at our reflections in the
water. What do you see?
It’s your right
to see yourself and whatever else
you want to me.
The trees
Let’s go dance in the forest.
Stop me if I step on your toes.
That’s not my right.
