DON’T SAY
by Adam McEldowney, 04/15/97
Don’t say, don’t say Babe Ruth is dead
that he is gone like dust in the wind
like salt dissolving in water.
For he is my hero
He lives in my heart as
an ethereal light.
He may be dead, but he is
alive in every baseball fan’s heart
Some things never die.
Don’t say I can’t be what
I want to be.
Don’t paralyze my mind
Let me laugh out loud
There is love and laughter
with each hit off a player’s bat
New life arises out of
the destruction of the past.
Don’t say it’s over, because
it’s never over.
It keeps going on and on
like a Ferris wheel that never stops
and no one complains.
Don’t say, don’t say I’m old
Say I’m young, and I’ll stay
young right along with you.
Don’t say, don’t say stop
for I am rounding third and
coming home.
This game never ends like
the lives within our souls.
Each breath is new and refreshing.
Each ray of sunshine sparkles
off the grass.
Don’t say the king is dead
For I am in his kingdom.
