What Color is Poetry?
by Leonard Osborne
Poetry is bright with rhyme,
Tempered thoughtful in the sublime,
Long and awesome in old, old books
Full of fame and honest looks.
Poetry is the engine of colors,
Where first new language paints
Figure and verse and schemes,
Where the structures of thought
Meet the tropes of imagination.
Poetry is words and parts of words
That rhyme and echo and remind.
Poetry is beautiful imagery put
Universally in metaphor and symbol.
Poetry is the challenge of rhetoric
To write and say "it" in a colorful way.
