Innovative Programs for Successful Living

Co-Occurring Disorders Outpatient Treatment

The Co-Occurring Disorders Outpatient Treatment Program operates in conjunction with all of our other programs, and provides specialized counseling services tailored to the needs of people diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Services are coordinated by Dr. Theodore Berry, PhD., who serves as the Dual Diagnosis Program Director. Individuals who have both a mental illness and a chemical dependency problem are offered inpatient and outpatient programs which provide counseling, education, and practical guidelines for coping with both diagnoses. Topics include cravings and triggers, relapse prevention, understanding and integrating the twelve-step model of recovery, and coping with the symptoms unique to people diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. The program also focuses on facilitating the support and friendship that comes from belonging to a fellowship of sober individuals who suffer from the same "double duty".  Co-Occurring Disorder services are provided in a safe alcohol/drug free environment as an integrated, unified and coordinated part of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. The multidisciplinary treatment team addresses the individual's complete clinical condition (including medication management, independent living skills, and development of vocational goals). Services are delivered in either a licensed inpatient residential treatment setting or in an outpatient clinic. Essential program elements include:

The Co-Occurring Disorders program consists of weekly dual-diagnosis groups, in-house 12-step meetings, one-on-one counseling, family counseling, mandatory community based 12-step meetings, creation of a specific relapse prevention plan, assignment of a buddy/sponsor/intern for each client, and random drug/alcohol screening. As clients progress through the program, continued attendance at local community 12-step and self-help meetings is encouraged and facilitated. Special features include collaborative communication and arrangements with other treatment agencies, vocational services, the cross-discipline training of mental health counselors and drug/alcohol counselors, and in-service training provided to 12-step sponsors and other volunteers enlisted to help the our clients maintain sobriety. Average length of stay in the program is nine months, with continuing aftercare provided. Treatment is covered through limited insurance providers (please consult with your insurance carrier), Medi-Cal, and on a fee-for-service basis.
