Innovative Programs for Successful Living

Vocational Counseling Services

Vocational Counseling is provided to clients across the range of our programs. Sanctuary Psychiatric Centers'Vocational Rehabilitation Program seeks to increase its clients' self-efficacy within the framework of their demonstrated capacities to assume responsible self-support. Based on the assumption that life is a continuous learning experience augmented by feedback from our surroundings, our vocational program offers several different settings, each of which informs and instructs clients about themselves and the world of work. These diverse learning sites include pre-vocational activites, ongoing educational and support groups, volunteer service agencies, transitional employment, and the reality of paid employment in the community.

The pre-vocational groups curriculum helps clients determine their skills, interests, values, and realistic career goals. Individual treatment plans are developed and implemented with assistance in resume writing, job hunting strategies, job placement, and job retention. These and other vocationally related topics are offered on a weekly rotating basis with an emphasis on practical, experiential learning. The intent of these structured learning experiences is to actively involve clients in identifying and developing their own positive work identities. From pre-vocational training, clients are assisted and encouraged in beginning work in the community. The focus is finding settings that match the client's needs and strengths. Supportive employment settings are used to prepare the client for the highest level of vocational functioning possible.
